It's Lily Season in the Hudson Valley---from roadside day lilies to more modern cultivars--and the occasional heirloom too--you'll find them just about everywhere this time of year. And all over the village.
And yes, this is your editor's third season--knock on wood--without the dreaded Scarlet Lily Beetle...then again, diligence has been key. Read more about this pest here.
Pictured below is an heirloom "Red Lily" that formerly graced an old Tennessee church---try spotting one of these beetles on this one! Alas, the church met the wrecking ball in the 1960's... but a former congregant and family friend rescued the plants and passed along the remnants. The bloom time is short-lived but spectacular in the sun. Click on the photo.
