LILY SEASON IN THE HUDSON VALLEY 2025, PART TWO

It's Lily Season in the Hudson Valley---from roadside day lilies to more modern cultivars--and the occasional heirloom too--you'll find them just about everywhere this time of year. And all over the village.

Pictured below is an heirloom variety in the Harmon garden of a friend and, according to his wife, came with house when they bought it.  The variety is supposedly very old, seldom seen, and the flowers are huge. It pops up every year near the dark corner of a shed and bends most unnaturally towards the one or two hours of direct sunlight it gets in the warmer months. One year, they divided it and put some in a sunnier location.  It has never bloomed anywhere else---just in that dark little corner near the shed. Mother Nature, it seems, knows best.....They call it a "Creamsicle" lily. Click on the photo.
