Regarding that
recent letter in The Gazette from Trustee Brian Pugh, a word from the Croton
United FB page:
TRUSTEE PUGH:
PLEASE CORRECT YOUR GAZETTE LETTER
Several residents
have contacted us about what appears to be a major error in Trustee Brian Pugh’s
recent Gazette letter about “poverty” in Croton that highlights findings of a
United Way study released last week. Pugh states that “the United Way found
that in our own Village, 18% of residents live in poverty.”
But a quick check of the United Way study shows that Croton’s real poverty rate
is 4%—which is in line with what one typically finds in U.S. Census data
and other similar reports. At least one resident has contacted Pugh about
correcting this error but so far he has not responded. Read more here http://bit.ly/2hkLVuM
don't hold your breath.
ReplyDeleteSince no one has shown the web site where the Uniyed Fund Report is located, I did some research to help. The link is: http://unitedwayalice.org/documents/16UW%20ALICE%20Report_NY_Lowres_11.11.16.pdf
ReplyDeleteYou need to cut and paste this link in the URL space but be forewarned, the report is 301 pages so you'll need to scroll a log way. I haven't done that yet but my initial concern is that the UF numbers were derived from a new methodology that I'm not sure has been accepted by anyone as yet.

I'm not surprised. No one denies that there is poverty in the county but Trustee's Pugh's figure of 18% poverty in Croton is just flat out wrong. I won't hold my breath waiting for a retraction. These days it easier politically to blame someone else.
ReplyDeleteDeflection of course. Well at least the Croton Dems took that other offensive post down on the Islamophobia resolution.
ReplyDeleteStill no correction. Anybody surprised?
ReplyDeleteDid he ever correct?
ReplyDeleteNo.
