MEMORIES OF THE PEWTER HORN IN CROTON, 1978 & 1979

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

139 Grand--the former home of Croton's Dr. Acker--has been undergone many reincarnations throughout the years--assorted restaurants, including The Croton Steak House, a gift shop known as Treasures & Tales, followed by another known as Wake Robin.

For a time it was also the home of THE PEWTER HORN, started in 1978 by Ed and Mabel Dean. Click on the images below from 1978 AND 1979, as well as a recent photo from this past summer. The site is now the home of THE ACKER HOUSE CENTER FOR INTEGRATIVE HEALTH (update closed; IN 2021, IT IS THE HOME OF STATE FARM INSURANCE).

  1. Businesses come and go in Croton and have been for decades. That's why I laugh when newer residents moan and complain as if this is something new that can be solved by officials who haven't a clue and who haven't bothered to examine our village history. No vision for the future, no respect for the lessons on the past.
