10/10/13 WINN CHESNARD, GOUVEIA PROPERTY DEAL

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton -- our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools -- in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

The following letter from Winn Chesnard appears in the 10/10/13 edition of The Gazette and appears here with permission:

To the Editor and taxpayers of Croton,

I would like to clarify the substantial costs of taking over the Gouveia property.

Taxes lost are only one of the costs we will "inherit". Taxes lost will be approximately 40 thousand dollars, including Village, Town, and School yearly.  Liability insurance, fire insurance, legal fees, maintenance costs, and rehabilitating the property for any use are far above the one million dollars she has proposed to leave in Trust.  These expenses and responsibility will be "inherited" by the Taxpayers of Croton, if not immediately, then certainly in the future.  We will be paying for this property for who knows how long until we can have full use of this "Gift". Already, it has been specified that no sports or loud music will be allowed.
