Welcome to EverythingCroton, a collection of all things Croton--our
history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short,
EVERYTHING CROTON.
We were chatting with an older Croton resident
today about the late Pop Berger, a man who is still much loved and
well-remembered today. That’s when we were reminded that we had recently
scanned this posting to the right from The Croton Historical Society’s archives. Click on the scan. Wish we had known him. It sounds like he was a remarkable man.

Penny Candy. A great luxury. Mom would send me out with twenty cents to fill up a bag to be saved for family night watching t.v. usually the Ed Sullivan show or Ted Mack's Amatuer Hour. Jawbreakers, marshmallow twists, candy lipsticks, fake cigarettes, orange slices, the pre-cursor of chuckles. Mary Janes. Do they even make Mary Janes any more?

We use to go to Pop Bergers for candy all the time with our 25 cents and maybe a little more if we saved up. It was a lot of fun. Pop was an awesome man!
ReplyDeleteI would shop for model car kits at Pop Bergers. About 1961-1962.
