We couldn't resist sharing this vintage Valentine's Day advertisement we found in an old magazine at the Cornelia Cotton Gallery back in 2001. It has all the bells and whistles---it's a 1945 wartime ad, featuring a very grown up Shirley Temple, a Lane cedar chest, and all those post-war hopes and dreams. Times have surely changed. I remember when my aunt got a chest for each of her two daughters and through the years filled it with all those things they'd need when they got married. Hand-made dinner napkins, a coffee service, little picture frames, things passed down from the family. I wonder if anyone does this any more?
