MORE OF CROTON'S SPECIAL PLACES: OUR SAVIOUR EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH

Welcome to EverythingCroton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Continuing our new series—Croton’s Special Places—here’s the 5th installment: OUR SAVIOUR EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH

This sweet and nostalgic red brick church, dedicated in 1939, and perfectly situated on a low hill at the “Circle” in the Harmon section of Croton, recently celebrated its 75th anniversary in our village. Known for its strong outreach advocacy, particularly on the issue of hunger, it supports the work of Lutheran Social Services of New York and Lutheran World Relief through the benevolence portion of its budget. But they do more than simply write a check: once a month, volunteers prepare a meal for about 20 homeless people at the Jan Peek Home in Peekskill and each spring, they participate in an Offering of Letters. For more about this, click: http://www.oursaviourcroton.org/outreach.html

Their annual Christmas Fair, date and time coming soon, draws in visitors from around the Hudson Valley, with a White Elephant Sale and beautiful hand-crafted items, and their “Vacation Bible School” is known for putting just the right amount of “fun” into the mix.

There’s so much more we can tell you about Our Saviour, but a visit to their home page will say it best: http://www.oursaviourcroton.org/

  2. Our Saviour is also gathering information for a historical review of the church from anyone who has memories of it, whether members or not. Persons interested in sharing may contact the church office for more info.
