Here's the last of the photos from the Croton Little League Opening Day/Parade on April 16th (You can see Part 1 and a full list of this year's sponsors here http://bit.ly/1Snfqt3)
Well it's unanimous! This was one of the best opening days yet, a real slice of Americana. Peter Marengo--your master of ceremonies so to speak--gave a great talk on the importance of baseball in our country and doing your very best in life. He thanked the village board and staff, as well as all the parents for their hard work. He was also sure to thank all of this year's sponsors, with a special note to NK Electric, Mark Franzoso, Gemmola & Assoc. etal, for the new pressbox and scoreboard, as well as Happy Hearts, Feed the Birds, Croton Colonial, Rivertowns Realty and so forth. He also stressed the importance of returning the favor by supporting all the local businesses who had a hand in making the event a reality.
Legendary CLL Coach Mel Giarolo threw out the first pitch and Billy Roberts led the crowd in singing the Star Spangled Banner. Click on the photos below.
This is the kind of Croton I grew up in. I haven't seen such a well attended opening day like Saturday in years. Could it be that people are waking up to the "traditional" ways and finding that they're not so bad after all? One could only hope.
ReplyDeleteBaseball rocks!
DeleteIn an age of electronic games, it's nice to see kids out and about again. Thank you everyone for your great photos, to the Moms and Dads who made this possible, to the businesses that made that press-box which looks so professional and "big league". Such a positive experience for everyone. I had a great time.
ReplyDeleteLove that press-box. It was the BEST DAY! LONG LIVE OPENING DAY TRADITIONS AND BASEBALL!
