Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of
all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our
schools--in short, EverythingCroton.
The following letter from Nicole Dinis regarding the Croton Yacht Club appeared in the 11/1/12 edition of THE GAZETTE. It is re-printed here with permission.
Dear
Editor,
“We
Stand for Something or We Fall For Anything!”
Recently
there has been a proposal by a member of
the Village of Croton Planning Board to allow the lease with the Croton
Yacht Club to expire and appropriate the
building (which the club has built and paid for ) in order to start a
waterfront restaurant.
Croton
is a place that was built on small town values that foster community and
environmental responsibility both of which the Croton Yacht Club supports and
models. This Village is a place that celebrates and supports the arts and
preserving and protecting the environment. Democrats and Republicans alike can
agree on one thing, relying on government grants and support for such
"luxuries" in this economy is no more. Communities have to support
the people who work so hard at a grass roots level to keep this sense of
community strong and no place is this more apparent than at the Croton Yacht Club.
By not renewing the lease the Croton Yacht
Club would be forced to disband, essentially
sending a message to the people of Croton that the sense of community and
respect and support for those who participate in these services are not as
important as making way for “money making” endeavors. The people of Croton
should stand up and support groups like the Croton Yacht Club who add value to
the community by the scholarships they give, educational and social events they
coordinate and environmental conservation they try so hard to promote and
teach. So please “stand up” and support
a group like the Croton Yacht Club who adds value to our community or you may
just ‘fall for anything’, like the idea that a restaurant in its place is a
good one!

In a village that prides itself on its so called environmental awareness, but does the opposite, like trying to cut deals with garbage companies that made problems all over the place, I'm not surprised by this latest cr*p on the part of this board. Voting to spend $18,000 for a consultant for that site already told you where they are going. Just like their Gouveia scheming and their annual defense of the former village manager but not a peep of defense now are you surprised? I'm going to miss Greg Schmidt who voted against the consultant. Wonder if we can get our money back. Yeah sure.
