CROTON-ON-HUDSON — Five 13-year-old village boys saved a Greenburgh woman from drowning in the Croton River Wednesday evening, after she went in to rescue her young son, police said. The heroics took place at 5:30 p.m., after Joanna Criolla, 25, saw her child fall off a float at Mayo's Landing. She jumped into the river and went underwater as she grabbed for him.The teenagers — friends Brandon Ferguson, Michael Bello, Michael Harris, Daniel Brecher and Erik Scerbanovsky — were swimming at the site and saw the struggle. They split up, a couple of them grabbing Criolla and carrying her to shore. The others helped her child. Thank good ness the teens were there! But isn't there "No Swimming" at Mayo's landing?
ReplyDeleteThat is correct. Remember the mock trial on a local blog of Schmidt and the pretend drowning of a child. Guilty it said of Schmidt and the republicans. Not a peep now that the democrats are in charge of course and doing nothing to prevent swimming. As a matter of fact the great late Elise Sasso addressed all this, here's the only part that's relevant:

To the Editor,
Recently, a very irresponsible blogger posted a scenario, where-by two children drowned at Mayo's landing in Croton. This twisted fabrication was meant to criticize Mayor Schmidt and a resolution, which passed unanimously by the Croton Board of Trustees a few weeks ago. That resolution tried to address the problem of over-use at a favorite site on the Croton River. Of course, the blogger saw it differently and placed the Mayor on an imaginary trial for their imaginary deaths."
Elise was great on so many levels and fearless.
ReplyDeleteBut also kudos to the kids for being there. Maybe it's time to have a life guard down there since swimming does occur.
ReplyDeleteHow well I remember that awful blog posting. What are you going to do about this it demanded? No comments form the peanut gallery now! Glad the kids were swimming there and glad they were able to help, but swimming isn't allowed.
ReplyDeleteHeroes!
ReplyDeleteit could have gone a different way but thank God it didn't. Kids deserve a lot of credit for keeping calm and cool.
