BY SPECIAL REQUEST FROM 2013: A BLAST FROM THE PAST, THE BOUWERIE BOYS MORRIS DANCERS AT TAGINE, SOME PIX, FATHER BRENNAN TOO

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Another resident was trying to remember a medieval dance troupe she had once seen in the Upper Village.  It could only be....

5/18/13--Neither grey skies nor occasional rain could keep the Bouwerie Boys Morris Dancers from their appointed rounds in Croton today--their last stop was at Tagine--they had been at Justin Thyme and the Danish Home earlier---and Holy Name of Mary's Pastor Brennan graciously allowed the group to perform in front of the parish center (since it is the only sidewalk in the upper village wide enough to accommodate the spirited choreography).  Click on the photos.

REMEMBERING THE QUEEN OF THE COWGIRLS -- DALE EVANS

Who died this date in 2007. Here's one of our favorite quotes: "Cowgirl is an attitude, really. A pioneer spirit, a special American brand of courage. The cowgirl faces life head-on, lives by her own lights and makes no excuses."

ARTICLE #1--NY FINALLY RELEASES DATA AT EACH NURSING HOME

New York state finally released fatality data for individual nursing homes, painting a much grimmer picture of the toll taken by the COVID-19 virus.  The state Department of Health quietly updated its chart of nursing-home deaths to include those who died at hospitals as well as in the facilities. The update added more than 4,000 deaths to the state tally as of Thursday.  The Upper East Side Rehabilitation and Nursing Center had 29 deaths at the home, and another 51 in a hospital. MORE CROTON ON HUDSON IN LATE JANUARY AND EARLY FEBRUARY OF 1973

Updated with more at EverythingCroton: BY SPECIAL REQUEST, AND UPDATED WITH MORE-----CROTON ON HUDSON IN LATE JANUARY AND EARLY FEBRUARY OF 1973

MORE FABULOUS VINTAGE WEBSITES, FINDS, ETC. FROM EVERYTHING CROTON

As always, some oldies but goodies, special requests, new finds and more.  Click on the photos and links.

First up--we love old postcards and 'orphan photos', so called because they have somehow become separated from their 'real families'--and especially those that are holiday or Christmas-themed.  The one to the right comes to you courtesy of Howard Murray--he added the 'Celebrate Winter'--and is more than likely pre-1920's. Utterly charming.

It's followed by a fabulous gift from a friend that finally made its way out onto the Christmas table this year---a pair of vintage kitschy Christmas tree napkin holders--probably 1960's, maybe a little earlier.  SOOOOOO HEAVY!

They're followed by a great vintage postcard of Sal Mineo, courtesy of our friends at European Film Star Postcards.  For more about Mineo and their post---click HERE

And finally their post on VAN HELSING, THE 2004 production with  Hugh Jackman.

Again, click on the photos and links.

As many of you know, "zinnfiguren" or tin flat figures (also known as flatties) are in great abundance at Antoinette Stockenberg's vintage putz Christmas mantle every year--what's a village without people and such--but they are frightfully expensive, vintage or new.   You can see these wonderful inhabitants of Antoinette's village through the years right here

But back to the Zinnfiguren, Barclay seems to be making the reproductions again--you can check them out at BARCLAY COMPANY HERE

Through the years, however, a number of us have made our own faux-or-false-Zinnfiguren--a.k.a. flatties...

Here are two that Howard has made:

A horse and sled--click here And a snowman--click here

Stay tuned for more....

For the reader who missed out on the antique German lead ski-ing Santa---the originals do go quite high when they come to market---here's a less pricey option---and plastic---and smaller--but still, it might work for the scene you are building----some interesting cake picks from  THE CAKE GIRLS https://thecakegirls.com/plastic-santa-skiing-cupcake-topper.html

AND IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: HOWARD'S REPRO "BOBBY PIN" FENCE---TWO PAGES OF FUN!  Click here.

FOLLOW UP--THAT "OIL SLICK" AT THE CROTON COMMONS LOT WAS HYDRAULIC FLUID--INFO FROM THE CROTON ON HUDSON FD FACEBOOK PAGE:

On Wednesday afternoon around 2:30 PM, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department was called to investigate an “oil slick” in the Croton Commons Shopping Center parking lot.  Units arrived to find that nearly the entire lot had hydraulic fluid mixed with melting snow on it’s surface. Members boomed off storm drains and worked with the spiller and their contractor to contain the spill and make the lot safe.  Units operated for over two hours with Car 2083 (AC Karpoff) remaining on scene to oversee the cleanup until 6PM. 2083, E120, R18, U14 & U208 handled the assignment.

TOWN OF CORTLANDT EMAIL: NEW BATHHOUSE AND SNACK BAR AT CHARLES COOK POOL

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship----in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

Press Notice: A New Bathhouse and Snack Bar at Charles Cook Pool-For more information contact: Linda D. Puglisi, Supervisor, Town of Cortlandt

(914) 734-1002; Fax: (914) 734-1003

Cortlandt Manor, NY

A New Bathhouse and Snack Bar at Charles Cook Pool

The Town of Cortlandt is pleased to announce that the Supervisor, Linda Puglisi and the Town Board members, Richard H. Becker, Debra A.Carter, James F. Creighton and Francis X. Farrell have approved a new snack bar and previously awarded the bid for a new Bathhouse at their Town pool location (Charles Cook Pool, named after a Town Supervisor from the 1970’s).

Both of these new needed amenities replace a bathhouse and snack bar built thirty years ago. This investment is for the next thirty to fifty years for our community.

This lovely pool complex also has seen the construction of many other new amenities over the years during Supervisor Puglisi’s administration (1992-2021). She will be retiring at the end of 2021 but includes the enhancement of the pool campus as one of her accomplishments to improve the quality of life for Cortlandt families.

Other attractions and features that have been added to this location over the years are: a Water Spray Park, new tennis courts, a soon to be constructed basketball court, a nine-hole mini golf course with town features at each hole, a ballfield and a beautiful nature trail nestled in the woods behind the Nor-West Regional Special Services building. The pool itself was renovated several years ago.

The bathhouse is constructed but was halted for a few months during the early days of the pandemic and the snack bar recently approved will begin construction very soon. We are hoping to open up our pool complex for our community this year. It was closed in 2020 due to Covid-19 and prior to vaccines.
