CONTINUED: OUR FIRE DEPARTMENT DESERVES BETTER, MORE SUPPORT FROM THIS WEEK'S GAZETTE

Welcome to Everything Croton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools, our houses of worship--in short, EVERYTHING CROTON.

THE FOLLOWING LETTER APPEARS IN THIS WEEK'S GAZETTE:

Letter to the Editor:

What if no one answered the call?

That is a slogan used for recruitment in the volunteer fire service.  I’m asking you, right now, what if you had an emergency and no one answered the call?  Think about that for a moment.

When your house is on fire at 2 am, or in subzero weather, or in blazing heat...who answers the call?  When your car flips over, or you or your kid ends ends up in a ditch, who answers the call?

Your 100% Volunteer Fire Department that’s who.  They stop what they’re doing, they leave the dinner table, they leave their kid’s games,  they leave family events, and they get out of bed, for free, for you.

They don’t stop and check your address,  or your political party,  or your beliefs before they show up... they just show up. I know a lot of people in the Croton Fire Department, people who would give you the shirts off their backs. They don’t deserve the things that have been said about them this past week. Please support the people who show up, no questions asked, for you and your families... 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
