The latest edition of the Gazette has a cover story on the grossly
underestimated expenses of the Gouveia property accepted by the Wiegman
administration, in particular the cost of the access work to the site,
etc. It's a lengthy article and worth reading in it's entirety; here's a
relevant excerpt:
It was the administration of Democrat Leo
Wiegman, which was hot to accept their property and cash and named the
grounds in Mrs. Gouveia's honor. Political opponents, among them the
Croton United candidates who defeated Mayor Wiegman and trustees
Slippen and Levitt last November--have consistently opposed accepting
the property. Trustee Gallelli said at Monday's meeting "I'm very happy
this is moving forward". That spurred criticism of the acquisition from
Mayor Schmidt who said that in the less than a year and a half the
village has spent down almost $100,000 of the 1 million dollar
trust--from which the new access contract of $218,600 will also be
deducted.
As well, many
village laborers' hours have been diverted to issues relating to the
property instead of the village's other parks "That we can barely
maintain" he said.
It then goes into Joel Gingold's statement that cost
and revenue projections for the property may have been intended to
mislead....PLEASE read the article in its entirety. The Gazette is on
sale just about everywhere. You can also read more about Joel Gingold's
statement here http://www.crotonunited.org/…/the-grossly-erroneous-gouveia…

Nice to see the Gaz covered the meeting. This was one of the most important things that happened that night.
