FOUR ITEMS FROM THE MAILBOX

FOUR items:

Getting reports of midnight loud music again which your editor did not hear but sort of felt the passing vibration; it was transitory and gone quickly--at least here. If anyone else experienced more, you should really report it to the village. Have to admit it was annoying on a weeknight, however temporary.

AND

So---once again, there have been random complaints recently about some article links posted here only being accessible via a paid subscription to the media source in question....

Yes, from time to time, we stumble upon items of potential interest that are behind a paywall (this frequently is the case at LoHud, THE NY SUN and some Examiner News articles, and substacks for example)--but like to offer our readers the option of saying yes or no anyway.

These days, local journalism, information, and news often come at a cost. It's your decision to spend....or not.....yes it can add up---which is why we recommend that you do your due diligence before you write that check.

Once again, life is not free.  And once again, it's time to get over it.

AND

GETTING COMPLAINTS that this blog sometimes features AI-driven sites. This too is life. Time to get over it.

AND

A reader has fond memories of the "old drive-in" and remembers seeing some sort of "articles directory" here but can't find it.

FUN STUFF---CROTON AND THE UFO BUG -PART ONE

Back in the 60's and 70's--and a bit beyond it seems---Croton had been especially bitten by the UFO bug---per many of the village's old-timers and some scattered articles here and there. (More on that another day.)

Sightings out at the Point were often common--strange lights were the main culprit---some folks theorized this was merely illegal midnight dumping at the landfill--and nothing much came of all the occasional hoopla in the end.

For a time, however, someone who went by the pen-name of "DJPS Kittens"--and fancied himself the author of the next CHARIOT OF THE GODS or some other Great American novel--tried in vain to get the Starlight Drive-In to feature the work of Reinhold O. Schmidt (click on the image from 1961/1962).

Perhaps that was just as well. Schmidt was a fraudster and convicted embezzler who was one of the more obscure UFO contactees of the 1950s. You can read about him here.

And besides, the Starlight seemed to be interested in other fare for the years in question: EverythingCroton: MORE WHAT'S PLAYING AT THE STARLIGHT DRIVE-IN, 1960-1963
