Dear Neighbors,

I want to share information regarding verified federal immigration enforcement in Croton-on-Hudson today, Friday, September 11, at approximately 7:00 AM on Brook St. Our Police Department had no advanced knowledge that this activity was taking place and took no part in the immigration enforcement action.

We understand that one man residing on Brook Street was taken into custody by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). At this time, we do not have any additional verified information. We have provided notice to New York State Attorney General Leticia James through her Federal Action Reporting Form: https://ag.ny.gov/federal-action-form

There is a time and place for federal law enforcement to carry out its responsibilities. Conducting an ICE operation in the immediate vicinity of a school bus stop on the morning of a school day, without any advance notification to local officials or the school district, was unnecessarily disruptive to our community.

To date, we are aware of two Village residents who have been taken into custody by ICE. In an incident reported in the April 19-April 25, 2026, blotter, another man residing on Brook Street was also taken into ICE custody and remains, as of last report, in federal custody at the Delaney Hall Detention Facility.

Our community deserves transparency and communication from federal authorities when their actions directly impact our residents, schools, and public spaces. Our thoughts are with our immigrant neighbors during this difficult time.

As Mayor, I will continue to work closely with our Police Department, our school districts, and our community partners to ensure that accurate information is shared, that everyone’s constitutional rights are respected, and that the safety and well-being of our residents remain our priority.

The Village of Croton-on-Hudson and its police department do not enforce federal civil immigration laws, meaning officers cannot question, detain, or arrest individuals based on immigration status or administrative detainers alone. Cooperation with immigration authorities is strictly limited to matters involving judicial criminal warrants, terrorism, or probable cause of criminal offenses. This policy ensures all residents can safely report crimes and interact with local officials without fear.
