CREATOR OF ICONIC MISTER SOFTEE JINGLE HAS DIED

Les Waas, the Philadelphia advertising executive who wrote an iconic jingle that many consider the sound of summer, died earlier this month. He was 94. 

Waas composed the Mister Softee song (which has lyrics) for a radio commercial in 1960 and the tune still rings throughout neighborhoods five decades later, beckoning residents to buy a cool treat on hot summer days. The ice cream truck company, which was started by two brothers in Philadelphia and is now headquartered in Runnemede, N.J., has more than 600 trucks operating in 15 states.
