GARBAGE HISTORY, AT CROTON POINT PARK

Welcome to EverythingCroton, a collection of all things Croton--our history, our homes, our issues, our businesses, our schools--in short, EverythingCroton.

THE HISTORY OF GARBAGE, Westchester County's, will be discussed at Croton Point Park, at the former landfill site (click on the photo courtesy of the Croton Historical Society) - 8/4/12 - "Explore ancient and modern trash disposal" - 11 to 1 pm - You may also have an interest in this article from 1999: http://web006.westchestergov.com/articles/0825i.pdf

Copies of Hinchey's 1986 historic report, Organized Crime in the Waste Industry, relied on extensively by opponents of the former waste transfer station in the village (which operated under assorted names until its recent closure), are also available upon request.

Also from 1987, Riverkeeper:  http://www.riverkeeper.org/about-us/our-story/riverkeeper-timeline/#post_7148

  1. Thank God that sorry part of Croton's history is over thanks to the citizens. As for the dump, it will have to be monitored for generations.

  2. Life in Croton had and has a lot of fine qualities. The dump was not one of them.

  3. Turning such a historic place into a dump just shows how little regard people have sometimes. Did you know that this was once an important part of the Wappinger Confederacy?
