WHAT CAN WESTCHESTER DO TO AVOID AN E-BIKE, E SCOOTER ACCIDENT ON COUNTY BIKE PATHS?

Had an "unpleasant" e-bike encounter about two weeks ago here in the village while pushing a full shopping cart down Maple--and while it all worked out--the well has essentially been poisoned.

Clean, Drain, and Dry Your Watercraft to Help Prevent the Spread of Invasive Species

Heading out on the water this summer? Prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species by Cleaning, Draining, and Drying your watercraft and gear before using it in a new water body. It’s one of the best ways to protect your waters from invasive species—and it’s NY state law!

When you pull your boat out of the water: Clean mud, plants, and animals off your watercraft and other equipment and dispose of them in the trash.  Drain water-holding compartments like ballast tanks, live wells, and bilge areas.

Dry everything for 5-7 days in warm, dry conditions. If drying isn’t possible, visit a decontamination station and disinfect boats and equipment with hot water at 140 degrees F for 30 seconds.

Boating in or near the Adirondacks?

All boaters operating any kind of motorized watercraft in the Adirondack Park and within ten miles of the Blue Line are required by law to possess certification that, before launching, their vessel has undergone measures to prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species by following the Clean. Drain. Dry. standards.

The 28-year-old US Army staff sergeant from Queens was killed on July 17, 2026, in an Iranian missile attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan where she was stationed as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, the campaign against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. 1945 LEONORE DOSKOW--A GIFT FOR THE GRACIOUS HOSTESS

A reader stumbled across this very EARLY 1945 AD FOR LEONORE DOSKOW---BUT for her TABLEWARE PIECES...it was quite the thrill because she owns all three pieces----they belonged to her great aunt WHO LOVED TO "PULL OUT THE GOOD STUFF FOR ENTERTAINING".....click on the image.

For those who don't know, the Doskows lived on Finney Farm. A world renowned silversmith, Leonore began her career while still a college student when she received permission from her dean to make her jewelry in the science laboratory. TIME TO CHECK YOUR TREES FOR OAK WILT

VIA THE NYSDEC---Now is a great time to look for signs of oak wilt, a non-native fungus. Oak wilt affects both red and white oaks, but symptoms are more noticeable in red oaks, which can die in as little as six weeks after infection.

Signs of oak wilt are most obvious in July and August.  Infected red oaks will drop more than half of their leaves, and leaves may begin to turn brown from the outside edge moving inward.  While it is normal for oaks to change color and drop their leaves in fall, when observed during summer, these could be signs of oak wilt. NYSDEC INVASIVE NEWS! ASIAN LONGHORNED BEETLE

Time to check your pool filters for the ASIAN LONGHORNED BEETLE--Asian longhorned beetle (ALB) is active from now through Labor Day. DEC asks pool owners to check filters for the invasive insect regularly, and submit a report if any are found.

ALB attacks and kills maples, birches, willows, and other hardwoods. They emerge from infested trees in the late summer to find a new host. The beetles are 1.5 inches long, have long black-and-white antennae, and have black and white spots on their body.

They should not be confused with the native white-spotted pine sawyer, which has a distinctive white spot on their back, below their head.

No pool? You can still help! Be on the lookout for ALB exit holes, sawdust accumulating at the base of trees, oozing sap, or pits in bark.

If found:
