A top federal attorney in New York is speaking out against the state’s sanctuary city policies after allegedly being attacked by a knife-wielding undocumented migrant. John Sarcone III, the U.S. attorney for the Northern District of New York, said the incident happened while he was walking to the State Capitol building in Albany. THE CROTON CHRONICLE (ARTICLE IS NOT BEHIND PAYALL)

"The Hudson" at 25 South Riverside will be condominiums and not rental apartments.

Four of the announced 34 units in the sometimes controversial project--formerly known as "The Riverside"--will be "affordable" as governed by the Village Code.

It is often the case that residents of Croton-on-Hudson find out about important news in the village via local social media or even word of mouth. The decision by the developers of the 25 South Riverside Avenue site, Phil Spagnoli and Ralph Rossi, to market the development as condominiums rather than rental apartments is the most recent example.

Thus a number of sharp-eyed residents spotted the new marketing Website for the condos, which are now called “The Hudson” (the developers had previously named it “The Riverside.”) Under an artist’s conception of the rooftop recreational area designed for resident use, and a revolving series of video clips about the attractions of the village and our local area, we read some of the details:  GO TO "The Hudson" at 25 South Riverside will be condominiums and not rental apartments.

We continue a yearly tradition, EFSP follows Il Cinema Ritrovato from 21 - 29 June. We love the festival dedicated to cinematic masterpieces, timeless classics, and hidden gems. For nine days, films will be screened across seven theatres and two open-air venues — Piazza Maggiore and the steamy and carbon-lit Piazzetta Pasolini. Molly Haskell curated 'Katharine Hepburn: Feminist, Acrobat and Lover' for this year's edition. Katharine Hepburn (1907-2003) was a spirited performer with a touch of eccentricity. Rioting, burning down dozens of businesses, destroying police vehicles, and throwing ripped up chunks of concrete around in a large group for days definitely doesn’t = peaceful protests.

Thank you to Senator John Fetterman for being the only Democrat leader with common sense who said the following on the Los Angeles riots:

"I unapologetically stand for free speech, peaceful demonstrations, and immigration—but this is not that," Fetterman posted. "This is anarchy and true chaos. My party loses the moral high ground when we refuse to condemn setting cars on fire, destroying buildings, and assaulting law enforcement."

A WORD FROM THE NYSDEC---KEEP WILDLIFE WILD

Keep Wildlife Wild

Did you know that there are eleven species of freshwater or land turtles (PDF) native to New York and that two are endangered, one is threatened, and four are species of special concern? You might think to yourself, what’s happening here?

Well, on top of habitat loss and degradation, invasive species, and vehicle strikes when crossing the road, turtles are facing threats from danger that is hard to see: illegal collection. All native turtles are protected by law in New York. Keep wildlife wild—do not take them home as pets.

What do I do if I find a turtle?

If the turtle is not injured and is in its natural habitat then leave it alone. Never relocate a turtle to a new area. Relocating turtles can be detrimental to their survival and can hurt local populations by impacting reproduction, genetic diversity, and/or by spreading disease. It takes turtles a long time—often 10 years or more—to reach reproductive age! Taking a hatchling or an adult turtle out of its environment will negatively affect the overall health of the population. (Plus, it’s illegal!)

What should I do if I find an injured turtle?

If you find a turtle that is obviously injured, you can reach out to a wildlife rehabilitator or your regional wildlife office for assistance.

What should I do with a pet turtle I no longer want?

Never release a pet turtle into the wild (it’s illegal)! Non-native turtles (possibly a turtle that you’ve purchased from a pet store like a red-eared slider) can spread disease and/or compete with New York’s native species for food and habitat resources. We would suggest contacting a local animal shelter or rescue to see if they would take the non-native turtle in. If you are in possession of a turtle native to New York contact your regional DEC wildlife office for guidance.

How else can I help?

If you see something, say something. If you suspect someone is illegally collecting or selling wild turtles, contact an Environmental Conservation Police Officer at 1-844-332-3267 to report poachers.

Black Lives Matter Grassroots made a series of demands for assistance to “our people” and to hold white Americans “accountable” in a Thursday press release honoring Juneteenth, a holiday commemorating the liberation of slaves in the U.S. The group laid out requests for specific ethnic groups, reiterating its brand of leftist identity politics that has lost significant amounts of public support, according to May polling from Pew Research Center. Next up, a fabulous vintage Italian postcard featuring Diana Dors. It's part of a post at European Film Star postcards featuring vintage movie star cards by Italian publisher, Rotalfoto.

Rotalfoto (or RotalFoto) was alocated in Milano (Milan). From the 1950s till the 1970s, the firm created countless postcards with the logo of a globe. 

The subjects were often topographic, but Rotalfoto also created a wonderful series of film star postcards.

APPEALS COURT EXTENDS ORDER ALLOWING TRUMP TO DEPLOY NATIONAL GUARD IN L.A.

Washington — A federal appeals court on Thursday extended its block of a judge's order that directed President Trump to return control of California's National Guard to Gov. Gavin Newsom.  The unanimous order from a three-judge panel for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit is a victory for the president and allows for the continued deployment of roughly 4,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles, where they have been protecting federal property and U.S. immigration agents during enforcement operations.  MORE AT Appeals court extends order allowing Trump to deploy National Guard to L.A.

A Salvadoran national is charged with the alleged crimes.

By now many or most villagers will have heard about Tuesday’s attempted attack in Albany on the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York, John Sarcone, who has deep roots in Croton-on-Hudson. Sarcone was not hurt but understandably very rattled by the incident.

For those who don't know, the WHOLE EARTH CATALOG was an American counterculture magazine and product catalog created by Stewart Brand in 1968. It was published intermittently until 1998, with the last issue being released as "The Millennium Whole Earth Catalog."

The Whole Earth Catalog was inspired by the idea of providing "access to tools" that would empower individuals to shape their own environment and lives. It contained a wide range of information, including articles, essays, reviews, and recommendations on topics such as alternative education, ecology, sustainable living, technology, and DIY projects. The catalog also included tools, books, and resources related to these subjects, with information on how and where to buy them. The magazine's intended audience was primarily the counterculture movement of the late 1960s and early 1970s, which was marked by a strong interest in self-sufficiency, ecology, and communal living.

An undocumented man is facing charges in Albany after allegedly threatening a U.S. attorney with a knife near a hotel on Lodge Street on Tuesday, according to the Albany Times-Union. Grace Richards, the manager of Croton Shoprite is moving on to a new store in Mt. Kisco.   She received a plaque and gift certificate expressing the gratitude and appreciation of her commitment to the Croton Senior Club and the community. She will be missed.
