BEHIND PAYWALL--JUSTICE JACKSON'S LATEST DISSENT REMINDS US SHE REMAINS UNFIT FOR THE SUPREME COURT

There are myriad reasons why Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson is unfit to serve on the Supreme Court. Indeed, her primary qualifications — according to President Biden, who nominated her — are that she's Black and a woman. Since she took her seat in June 2022, she has spent every day proving she wasn't selected for her jurisprudence. BEHIND PAYWALL AT Justice Jackson's Latest Dissent Reminds Us She Remains Unfit for the Supreme Court

FROM THE MAILBOX

A reader recently stopped in Peekskill and was surprised to see that a number of "new businesses" are no longer open, along with endless stretches of "poorly placed" multifamily housing (we'll leave the rest of her commentary out.)

She has been searching for an old article and video here at the blog--"possibly from 2020"---- regarding the city's continued decline/challenges---and seems to remember a WILDER BALTER REREFENCE--but can no longer find it. Can we help?

Response: Well, you may mean this.....from 2019....good luck; go to EverythingCroton: LESSONS FROM PEEKSKILL 2019

A reader remembers a short-lived "TAPAS PLACE" here in the village. Name please?

Response: Croton has had not one, BUT TWO, tapas restaurants. The most recent failed CIRCA 2017/2018, despite being critically acclaimed. (LA SALA). It was where RAGA currently is.

YUKA's LATIN FUSION had TAPAS MONDAYS at one point but may no longer do so. Conract them directly.

IN THE NEWS--THAT ENDS THAT---SUPREME COURT CONVERSION THERAPY RULING IS A WIN FOR FREE SPEECH

Thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court, Kaley Chiles can go back to doing the work she loves without fear of intervention or punishment from the government.

Chiles, a Colorado licensed therapist, sued the state over a 2019 law that prohibits conversion therapy for minors. As a Christian, Chiles wanted to be able to speak freely with her clients who struggled with their gender about how they can feel comfortable with their biological sex, without turning to drugs or surgeries.

Now she can.

It’s a clear win for free speech and another strong stand for the First Amendment by our country’s highest court. The fact that this was a decisive 8-1 ruling is notable as well. MORE AT Supreme Court conversion therapy ruling is win for free speech | Opinion

CANADIAN MURDER SUSPECT ON MOST WANTED LIST ARRESTED, WAS IN US ILLEGALLY

An illegal immigrant who was one of Canada's most wanted fugitives was arrested last week in Mississippi, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced Tuesday.

Adrian Vincent Walker, 28, who was among the top 25 most wanted international fugitives in Canada, is accused of first-degree murder. "Thanks to the brave men and women of ICE, one of Canada’s most wanted criminals is behind bars. This individual was wanted for a murder in Canada," said Acting DHS Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis. "He is now facing charges for illegal entry into the U.S. and illegal possession of a firearm." WSJ: "KINGS OF DARK MONEY"

Many thanks to Tom Faranda's Folly for posting this very detailed piece from the Wall street Journal---the article would have been missed otherwise---see LINK BELOW:

From the Journal long running “Best of the Web” email feature. For the complete story hit the link at the bottom.

Jonathan Alpert makes a good case that “No Kings” events are bad group therapy for the highly credentialed. So who’s paying for these destructive therapy sessions? Former Wall Street Journal reporter Asra Nomani reported Saturday for Fox News:

A network of about 500 groups with an estimated $3 billion in combined annual revenues is behind the coordinated nationwide “No Kings” protest Saturday, including communist groups who are using the day to call for a “revolution,” according to a Fox Digital News investigation.

According to a copy of the permit for the “flagship” march in St. Paul, Minn., Indivisible, a national well-heeled Democratic political advocacy organization funded by billionaire George Soros, is the lead coordinator for the protest.

But Fox News Digital has also identified key participation by a network of radical socialist and communist organizations funded by Neville Roy Singham, an American tech tycoon and avowed communist living in China. MORE AT WSJ: “Kings of Dark Money” – Tom Faranda's Folly

VILLAGE & TOWN OF CORTLANDT ID CARD POLICY

Yet again, getting trolled relentlessly about the "unfairness"--inequity---whatever---that village AND town-issued id cards are needed in order to use certain amenities.  Sorry, but these are mandatory....please direct your comments---and complaints--about these id's to the appropriate officials.  You are quite simply wasting your breath here. Many of us don't have a problem with ids for this---and many other issues......

Without fail---every season---the blog gets complaints about VILLAGE AND TOWN ID CARD policies/protocols.Yes, in addition to a village issued ID to use certain amenities, you must also have a Town of Cortlandt issued ID to use town facilities, like the swimming pool.

QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS REGARDING THIS MANDATORY VILLAGE AND TOWN ID POLICY should be directed to to Croton-on-Hudson NY |and Town of Cortlandt, NY

KAROLINE LEAVITT BLASTS MINIMAL MEDIA COVERAGE OF SHERIDAN GORMAN MURDER

FOX News--White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt slammed the minimal coverage the liberal networks have given to the murder of 18-year-old Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman.

Leavitt took a moment at Monday's press briefing to highlight a recent study from the Media Research Center showing CBS News dedicating two minutes and one second of coverage towards Gorman's murder while ABC News spent just one minute and 19 seconds and NBC News spent just 23 seconds total......."I think her life was worth more than 23 seconds on cable television," Leavitt said. "And I think the people in this room have a responsibility to report on cases like this because it just exemplifies why the president believes so strongly in deporting illegal aliens from our communities." DEMOCRATIC LAWMAKERS TOOK CASH FROM INFAMOUS "DOMESTIC TERRORIST" BILL AYERS

One of the most notorious radicals in recent American history has put his money behind a slate of Democratic lawmakers.  Bill Ayers, co-founder of the Weathermen and later the Weather Underground, has donated over $10,000 to at least a dozen Democratic lawmakers since 2020, campaign finance records show. THE LATEST FROM THE HECHINGER REPORT---DID NY BLOW $10 MILLION ON READING INSTRUCTION THAT DOESN'T WORK

In April 2024, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul made a bold promise: The state would revamp its approach to literacy and boost state reading scores by double digits. “We’re turning the page on how we teach students how to read,” she said in front of a first grade class in Albany. The state would raise the share of third graders reading proficiently from 45 percent to 60 percent or higher, she said.
