Registration for the 2026 "Early Bird" Lap Swim Program at Charles J. Cook Pool begins soon!

This program provides fitness‐minded adults the chance to take to the water without interruption from other swimmers. The program will be broken into two separate time slots, 9:00 AM‐ 10:00 AM and 10:00‐ 11:00 AM. Within those sections, there will be two options, a single swimmer per lane option, and a two swimmers per lane option.

Registration begins online, www.townofcortlandtny.gov/reconline, and in office on Monday, June 8th at 8:30 AM.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration’s Office of the Surgeon General and Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers union, separately called for limits on screen-time in schools. The United States Department of Health and Human Services suggested the use of physical text-books and pen-and-paper assignments “whenever possible,” and recommended the exclusion of screens in schools, except in computer labs. Weingarten called for a no-screens policy prior to the third grade, and a ban on “social companion” AI in class (i.e., the kind that could replace teachers) prior to age 16. Such expanded limits are an essential phase two of the already existing cellphone bans, which, despite a small but persistent population of doubters, appear to be working. ***BOTS..... bots.... everywhere a bot..... yes one site is particularly overrun. Nothing to be done---Billions of fake accounts are created and removed every year, yet new ones appear just as fast. The usual advice? Choose what pages you visit and post on wisely.

***Trending---claims that both "Dr. Ford" and "E.J. Carroll" were "funded by billionaire Democrat Reid Hoffman". Some of this is true; some of this is not; and some of it is framed to go either way. Perhaps it is best to wait until there are additional details before relying on memes, bots, anonymous comments, etc.

***MUCH DR. FAUCI hatred; NUMEROUS posters relating their "horrible Covid crazy experiences in Croton"----much discussion about "some of our nutjob mask police blue-hairs who have now moved on to the next narrative".....yada yada yada. Much discussion about Morens and what happens next. Some of what has been posted is inaccurate. REMINDER--THE MONTH OF JUNE---A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO JOIN THE BISHOPS AND THE WHOLE NATION --- IN CONSECRATION TO THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS

FROM THE ST, AUGUSTINE PARISH BULLETIN: All Catholics have a rare opportunity this June to join the bishops and the whole nation in dedicating ourselves to God. This summer will be a memorable celebration as Americans prepare to celebrate 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence on July 4. For the 50 million Catholics in the U.S. — one-fifth of the population — the 250th anniversary comes with a special and powerful move from the nation’s bishops. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will consecrate the entire nation to Jesus’ Sacred Heart on June 11, the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart.

This act of consecration dedicates its people to God, asking a flood of God’s grace and mercy. Parishes around the country are encouraged to join the bishops in celebrating the consecration of our nation to the Sacred Heart.

Why consecrate the United States to the Sacred Heart of Jesus? Most Rev. Alexander K. Sample, Archbishop of Portland, explains why the bishops are consecrating the nation in a video. In the video, Archbishop Sample explains the history of this practice and the opportunity it offers for ordinary men and women to “offer their lives in service to God and their country.” He said: On November 11, the bishops of the United States voted to consecrate this nation to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The consecration will take place in 2026 to celebrate America's Semiquincentennial, that is, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

What does this mean? Why consecrate the nation to the Sacred Heart? Devotion to the Sacred Heart has developed over the centuries following the experiences of Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque and the apparitions she witnessed in the seventeenth century. Popes have lauded the practice of consecration of the self, home, and even whole nations to the Sacred Heart. This anniversary and consecration gives us a special opportunity to promote the beautiful devotion to the Sacred Heart and to encourage the laity to offer their lives in service to God and their country.

Some of us haven’t yet finished wishing Barack Obama would just go away. A decade after leaving the Oval Office, the former president still hovers over our politics issuing sanctimonious tweets in support of dishonest causes, such as the Democrats’ botched gerrymander in Virginia.

But now, even with one ex-president still loitering with intent, there is another whose absence we constantly crave but are repeatedly denied. In this desire, we are certainly joined by most Democrats, for the ex-president in question is Joe Biden, whose already scant capacities dwindled into non-existence in 2024, a diminishment that led ineluctably to the blue party’s crushing electoral defeat at the hands of Donald Trump.

You’d think that after such a humiliating end to his hapless presidency, Biden would willingly fade into the gloaming in Delaware, avoiding attention as much as possible. But no, Obama’s one-time veep keeps drawing attention to himself, not so much by bouncing back into the public eye as by rolling across our vision like a thick incoming fog.

The latest instance of this politico-climatic phenomenon came in a TV interview for Sunday Morning given by his wife, Jill Biden....MORE AT Biden just won’t go away

1925, CROTON'S GLORIA SWANSON, THE COAST OF FOLLY

As many of you know, Gloria Swanson was one of the village most famous residents. (You can read more about that here and more here. And even more here.)

Click on the image for the 1925 production of THE COAST OF FOLLY. Swanson starred in this silent drama film, which was released on September 21, 1925.

Directed by Allan Dwan and based on a novel by Coningsby William Dawson, the film featured Swanson in a dual role as both mother and daughter. It was produced by Adolph Zukor, Jesse Lasky, and Allan Dwan, and distributed by Paramount Pictures. The movie is now considered lost, though stills and promotional materials survive.

This is part of a Memorial Day presentation, put together and written by my friend ER. Because of the weather the service with over 250 attendees was in the HNM gym. The pictures are of Fr. Tony Fagnani’s youngest brother Attilio and his family. Very glad they were able to attend.

Fox-Eklof American American Legion Post #505 would like to recognize Father Anthony Gabriel Fagnani [FAG-YANI], who as a First Lieutenant and Regimental Chaplain, was wounded on the front lines of Korea in 1952, while serving with the 179th Infantry Regiment, of the 45th Infantry Division, and awarded The Purple Heart Medal. (Incidentally, two other Croton veterans served with Father Tony at the same time somewhere in that division.)
