CROTON CELEBRITIES AND NOTABLES TOO---ASSORTED VINTAGE PRODUCT ENDORSEMENTS--PART TWO

The history of celebrity endorsements dates back to the 1760s when Josiah Wedgwood used royal endorsements as a brand-building tool, marking the beginning of celebrity endorsements as a marketing strategy. (Read more about all this at The History and Evolution of Celebrity Brand Endorsements – Film Daily)

Since then, celebrities have endorsed various products, including automobiles, tobacco, and cosmetics--and some were even marketed under their own name. Croton notables were no exception. Click on the images and links. There will be more.  (SEE PART ONE HERE.)

FIRST UP, from 1923, it's Croton's Gloria Swanson (and Wallace Reid) for Hermo "Hair Lustr". Adds a "charming sheen"......Swanson lived on Croton's Mt. Airy (Longvue Farm; see exterior shots here).

Wallace Reid's story is a tragic one---a rising star, until morphine addiction, influenza, and dead at 31; read it all here.

As many of you know, Lillian Nordica endorsed---and appeared in---nationwide advertising for Coca Cola throughout 1904/1905. (You can read more about that in Part One.)

We stumbled upon this 1905 ad with coupon.

For only some of Nordica and her Croton Connection, go to EverythingCroton: CROTON'S LILIAN NORDICA 1907

And to see Nordica's "weight reducing bath powder" ads, go to EverythingCroton: RECENT ARTICLE ON LILLIAN NORDICA---AND HER WEIGHT LOSS POWDER

And finally, it's Croton's Lenore Ulric---not for Lucky Strike Cigarettes this time---but a 1930 ad for Lux Toilet Soap. Click on the image.

For more about Ulric--married to Sydney Blackmer right here in the village---and her Croton connection, click here.

THAT'S ALL FOR NOW FOLKS. STAY TUNED. THERE WILL BE MORE!
