A collaborative operation between federal, state and local agencies has led to the seizure of hundreds of pounds of illicit drugs and 20 firearms over the past year in Broome County.

At a press conference on April 16, Broome County District Attorney Paul Battisti said the county's participation in "Operation Clean Sweep," an intel sharing and drug-busting operation carried out by local agencies with the help of state and federal partners, was successful.

Battisti was joined by over 20 people representing various law enforcement agencies including Broome County Sheriff Fred Akshar, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York John Sarcone III, special agent in charge of the FBI’s Albany Field Office Craig Tremaroli and Special Agent in Charge of the New York Task Enforcement Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration Farhana Islam.
