WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR ABOUT THE TARRYTOWN LIGHTHOUSE VANDALS AS OF JUNE'S END

The blog has been getting a lot of questions and cOmmentary about TarrytoWn Lightouse vandals. Here is what is verified and out there, gleaned from assorted sources, the Daily Voice, LoHud, News 12 etc.

As of early June 2025, four suspects have been arrested and charged in connection with the arson and vandalism of the historic Tarrytown Lighthouse in Sleepy Hollow, New York. On May 31, 2025, a Westchester County Parks employee discovered fire damage, broken windows, and destroyed antiques inside the lighthouse—a site listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Authorities charged four teenagers, including 19-year-old Richard Barrero and 18-year-old Elvin Ayavaca. Two 17-year-olds were also charged but not publicly named due to their age.

All four face felony counts of arson, burglary, and criminal mischief. The damage is estimated to exceed $100,000.

Surveillance footage helped identify the suspects. The investigation is ongoing, and public tips are still being encouraged.

The case is now in the legal system, and court proceedings are expected to follow.

As of now, all four suspects in the Tarrytown Lighthouse vandalism case have been arraigned and released on their own recognizance.

Here’s a breakdown of their legal case status:

  • Richard Barrero (19) and Elvin Ayavaca (18) were arraigned in Sleepy Hollow Village Court.

  • Two 17-year-olds were charged as juveniles. One was arraigned in the Youth Part of Westchester County Court, and the other turned himself in shortly after.

  • Charges include Arson in the Third Degree (Class C felony), Burglary in the Third Degree, and Criminal Mischief in the Second Degree.

They are currently awaiting further court proceedings.

At this time, authorities have not publicly disclosed the immigration status of the four individuals charged in the Tarrytown Lighthouse vandalism case. News reports and official statements have focused on the criminal charges—arson, burglary, and criminal mischief—and the ongoing investigation, but have not addressed whether any of the suspects are in the U.S. legally.

If immigration status becomes relevant to the legal proceedings, such as in the case of federal charges or ICE involvement, that information may be released later. For now, the case is being handled through local and state courts.

THIS IS ALL THAT IS VERIFIABLE AND HAS BEEN REPORTED AT THE PRESENT TIME TO OUR KNOWLEDGE. Residents should, however, prepare themselves for a possible outcome they may not like and/or do their own due diligence.
