THE CROTON CHRONICLE - MICHAEL BALTER

It was the six days that shook Croton. Between the day the village of Croton-on-Hudson issued an Accusatory Instrument against Lenny Amicola (September 3) to the day village officials decided to drop the whole matter indefinitely (September 9) events rocketed from an alleged local code violation to a national news story, complete with Trump administration threats to bring a civil rights action against the village.
In announcing its decision to drop the case, the village gave several reasons. One of them was the very disturbing receipt of a death threat sent to many village employees; another was a letter from the Assistant Attorney General for the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division, Harmeet Dhillon, citing a potential violation of federal law by the village; yet another was that “a routine code enforcement was transformed into a national spectacle,” bringing very unwelcome attention to our Hudson River community.
Village officials, and many residents, are no doubt glad that this dramatic episode is now over. Or is it? MORE AT Questions for village officials about the Lenny Amicola Trump display affair.
