FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION: LET'S ACT NOW TO MAKE SMART FINANCIAL DECISIONS

The following letter appeared in the most recent issue of the Gazette.

To the Editor:

In 2015, Croton United ran on a platform that focused on the escalation of village debt and its use of that debt during the prior six years when the Croton Dems held 4-1 and 5-0 majorities on the village board.

After the election of 2015, the Croton United-led village board impaneled a volunteer committee of residents with financial expertise to study this issue and make recommendations to the board and Village Manager. The Financial Sustainability Committee, whose members were chosen not by appointment of the Mayor, but rather, by a vote of all five members of the Village Board, was charged with the responsibility of studying and making recommendations to the village to address the debt issue.

Right in time for the New Year, the Financial Sustainability Committee has made its first report to the village board concerning the debt issue. As a resident who is concerned about the 90% increase in village debt during the prior administration, I want to thank the members of the committee for their detailed, professional report which the committee members affirmed at the December 12, 2016 work session was a true consensus opinion of the committee.
