PART 2: WE LOVE SILENT FILMS, BUSTER KEATON, MORE GLORIA SWANSON, THE CROTON CONNECTION + SOME GREAT SILENT FILM LINKS!

We love silent films--and here in Croton, we're not alone. And so....we've started a new series that will focus on local silent film events, ephemera, history and more...you can see the first installment here http://bit.ly/1GW10rN

Today we take a look at the great Buster Keaton (click on the publicity puff piece to the left from 1921). One of our favorite blogs, EUROPEAN FILM STAR POSTCARDS, just did an extensive post on Keaton and the restoration of two of his films, Sherlock Jr., and One Week, as well as Keaton's troubled history. You can read more here http://filmstarpostcards.blogspot.com/2015/07/imported-from-usa-buster-keaton.html

And finally, as many of you know, our own Croton-on-Hudson was home to many an actress from the silent film era. Perhaps the most famous was Gloria Swanson.

We've covered her extensively here at Everything Croton--largely thanks to the archives maintained by the hard-working volunteers of The Croton Historical Society--but recently came across this ad for Swanson in the 1923 production of My American Wife (click on the photo)

  1. Do you know if there are any Harold Lloyd films scheduled at the library this summer? I enjoy them immensely with my granddaughter and Beller's piano accompaniment.
