Gilbert Ray Hodges,  (April 4, 1924 – April 2, 1972) was an American Major League Baseball (MLB) first baseman and manager who played most of his 18-year career for the Brooklyn and Los Angeles Dodgers. He was inducted into the New York Mets Hall of Fame in 1982. Hodges is generally considered to be the best defensive first baseman in the 1950s. READ MORE HERE http://bit.ly/2nw3V8h

  1. Gil Hodges was a hero in my neck of the woods. He was a great first baseman for the Dodgers (and belongs in the Baseball Hall Of Fame) and he was the manager who brought my New York Mets their first World Championship when I was a little kid. I have that 1969 Gil Hodges card. (Rob)
