Today marked the 18th annual Denim Day, when denim is worn to work to promote awareness of sexual assault.

The symbolism originated in an Italian case in which a drivers ed student was assaulted by her instructor. An appellate panel overturned the criminal conviction because the victim wore denim jeans and the court said that the jeans were too difficult to take off without assistance, and therefore the victim had consented.
