CONGRATULATIONS TO CROTON'S ALL VOLUNTEER CROTON FIRE DEPT - 124 YEARS STRONG

Everything Croton salutes our all volunteer Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department... celebrating their 124th anniversary today--or birthday depending on one's perspective(!)... with a quick review of only some of the articles that have appeared on this blog. But first, from their FB page:

124 years ago today, the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department was born!

The "Washington Hand Engine Company" was formed on February 12, 1892, creating the first formal fire protection unit in the Croton Landing community after a fire in December of 1891 caused major damage to that section of our town. The men of this company were joined later that year by the Independent Fire Company (now the Chemical Engine Co.) and the Columbian Hook & Ladder Company. In 1898, when the Village of Croton-on-Hudson was organized, these companies were brought together, although the Washington's held out until 1907, due to a concern about an adequate water supply system for firefighting.

While much has changed in how we do what we are called upon to do, the one thing that has remained constant for 124 years is the dedication and pride of our members - keeping us a 100% VOLUNTEER organization!

We are ALWAYS looking for new members to become a part of the CFD family - if you have any interest or questions about becoming one of Croton's Bravest, call (914) 271-2693 or email memberinfo@crotonfd.org.

We look forward to our future serving Croton and beyond! https://www.facebook.com/CrotonFire
